About
Beggars' Bargain is an Indie Folk duo featuring Joe Bach and Micah Spurlock, currently based in Des Moines, IA.
Their unique sound is rooted in their diverse backgrounds: Joe, originally from Ida Grove, IA, honed his skills in Chicago, drawing inspiration from the soulful storytelling of Amos Lee and Ray Lamontagne. Micah, from Mineral Wells, TX, brings a foundation built on the blues energy of Stevie Ray Vaughn and the folk sensibility of artists like Willie Nelson and Jack Johnson.
For both artists, creating music has always been a powerful vehicle for navigating life’s trials. Beggars' Bargain is driven by the belief that music is a force for positivity and change. Their mission is simple: to share their story and create songs that resonate in a meaningful way.
Their debut album, A Bit Much, serves as the culmination of this mission. It is a rich tapestry of life experiences, weaving together introspective themes of purpose, love, and loss with moments of playful goofiness. Through engaging two-guitar arrangements and honest vocal harmonies, the album captures the duo’s raw chemistry and their commitment to finding light in the heavy moments.
“"To listen to this album is to feel deeply understood. It's music for the seekers, the thinkers, and anyone who has ever found themselves looking for a bit of grace in the middle of a long Iowa winter."
"The lyrics present a worldview filled with sunny curiosity and gratitude for every breath of life, all wrapped up in a hook that would make Carole King envious."
"While many duos compete for the spotlight, Beggars Bargain functions like a single, four-handed instrument, with Spurlock’s soulful lead lines perfectly accentuating Bach’s philosophical lyrical architecture."
